TRIBE HANDS PARNELL 2SD LOSS; STOBBS EARNS C.G. WIN IN TWINBILL SPLIT
The Red Sox ended up splitting a doubleheader with Cleveland, while the Yankees also won one and lost one against Chicago, thereby remaining 5.5 games back of Boston.
The Indians scored four times against Mel Parnell(13-2), handing him only his second loss of the year. Parnell had won his last 10 decisions.
Mel allowed nine hits, five of which went for extra bases.
Chuck Stobbs(4-0) helped Boston snap a three game skid, with a 3-1 win in the second game. The lefty earned his first complete game of the year. Though Cleveland outhit Boston, 9-8, Stobbs was able to hold them to just one run, that coming in the first,when Larry Doby tripled in Mickey Vernon.
Bobby Doerr(17) has a nice little streak of his own, he has homered in three straight ballgames.
The series concludes today, then the team heads to Chicago.
