WILD PITCHES COST MCDERMOTT IN 3-2 LOSS TO WHITE SOX
Boston’s Mickey McDermott(9-6) threw wild pitches in both the second and fourth innings and it cost him the game.
In the bottom of the second, Dave Philley doubled, then moved to third on the first of McDermott’s errant pitches, later scoring on a Joe Tipton groundout.
In the fourth, Cass Michaels tripled, scoring George Metkovich, then another wild pitch plated Michaels.
Ted Williams(25) homered in defeat.
In worse news, Al Zarilla sprained his ankle, landing awkwardly on the first base bag. He will be out for the next eight games and will be replaced in right field by Tommy O’Brien.
