RED SOX TAKE ADVANTAGE OF 7 WALKS, 3 ERRORS, IN 9-3 WIN OVER BROWNS

Ned Garver and three Browns relievers combined to walk seven batters and the St. Louis infield committed three errors, as Boston took advantage of a sloppy Browns effort, in a 9-3 win.

Four of the Red Sox nine runs were unearned and four of the seven issued free passes scored.

Bobby Doerr hit his (18th) home run. Mel Parnell(14-2) got the win, but it wasn’t pretty, especially by his own tough standards. He allowed 3 runs in seven innings, being tagged for eight hits. He struck out four and walked three.

Uncharacteristically, he gave up two solo homers, hit a batter and had a wild pitch, all in the same game. Yet he notched win #14, in spite of it.

Other American League scores: Chicago 12 Philadelphia 0; Cleveland 2 Washington 1; New York 8 Detroit 2
