TED WILLIAMS SETS NEW MARK FOR CONSECUTIVE GAMES WITH A HOME RUN
Boston’s Ted Williams(30) has set a new record for most consecutive games with at least one home run. He hit his thirtieth of the year off Howie Judson of the White Sox, the fifth straight game he has gone deep.
Pittsburgh’s Ralph Kiner, of the National League, opened the 1949 season, by hitting a home run in the first four games of the season.
Bobby Doerr(7) also homered for Boston. Tommy O’Brien, who filled in nicely for the injured Al Zarilla, hit a triple.
Zarilla is off the disabled list and is expected to start in right field for the Red Sox, who take on Cleveland, beginning with a double header tomorrow.
Other American League games: New York 3 Cleveland 2; Detroit 13 Washington 7; St. Louis vs Philadelphia ppd.
