CLEVELAND THROTTLES BOSTON IN DOUBLE HEADER SWEEP

The Cleveland Indians utterly destroyed the Red Sox in yesterday’s double header, winning both games.

The Tribe scored 18 runs and 33 hits in the debacle, with Boston helping the cause with four errrors.

Mike Garcia tossed a three hit shutout in the opening game, it’s only the third time this season the Red Sox have been white washed.

Mickey McDermott(10-7) gave up five runs in the first, enroute to an early shower. Dale Mitchell and Joe Gordon each had three hits. Lou Boudreau and Ken Keltner both doubled.

In game two, Cleveland had a 6-1 lead, before the Red Sox scored three times in the fourth inning, sparked by doubles from Al Zarilla, Walt Dropo and Johnny Pesky.

However, the Indians added a run in the sixth, and two more in the top of the ninth, when Mitchell tripled in a run and later scored himself, to win going away. Chuck Stobbs(4-1) was tagged with his first loss.

Merle Combs committed two errors, Doerr and Pesky, one each.

Mel Parnell will try to stop the bleeding as the five game series continues against Early Wynn.
