BOBBY DOERR LAYS DOWN SUICIDE SQUEEZE BUNT TO BREAK 4-4 TIE

The Red Sox were trailing 4-3, heading into the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Dom DiMaggio singled, then Johnny Pesky laced a triple into right field, tying the game.

That brought up Bobby Doerr, who laid down a perfect bunt, with Pesky halfway down the third base line, before Cleveland’s defense could react.

Walt Masterson set the Indians down in order to earn the save. Chuck Stobbs(5-1) got the win in relief.

Cleveland won the series, 3 games to 2.

Other American League scores: St. Louis 2 Washington 0. No other games scheduled.
