Ted Williams(33, 34) belted a pair of home runs, Vern Stephens hit his (22sd). Ned Garver and the rest of the St. Louis moundsmen gave up 18 hits and issued 11 walks.

Williams, Bobby Doerr and Birdie Tebbetts all scored three runs apiece.

Frank Quinn moved into the double digit column in wins(10-5), earning the victory in relief.

The cherry on the sundae was Detroit pounding New York, 10-2, stretching Boston’s lead to eight and a half games.
