1949 Boston Red Sox Replay

August 6 Gm# 103 Fenway Park Detroit 7 Boston 2

TIGERS HAMMER MCDERMOTT, RED SOX IN 7-2 WIN

Detroit got to Mickey McDermott(10-8) for all seven runs in today’s loss, though three runs were unearned.

Johnny Groth and Hoot Evers were on board when Bob Swift belted a three run homer off McDermott in the second inning, Evers having reached on a Dom DiMaggio error.

McDermott seemed to get back on track, holding the Tigers scoreless over the next four innings, but things unraveled in the seventh when Mickey allowed four more singles, two of them with two out.

Though DiMaggio’s error was costly, he had a good day at the dish, going 3-3, with two walks, a double and a stolen base.

Ted Williams got a rare day off.
