1949 Boston Red Sox Replay

August 11. Gm# 107 Fenway Park New York 9 Boston 0

“SUPER CHIEF” ALLIE REYNOLDS STOPS BOSTON COLD, IN 9-0 WHITEWASH

Despite being several games back in the standings, the Yankees showed they still can bring it when they want to.

Such was the case in this game. The “Chief”, Allie Reynolds, shut the Red Sox down completely, tossing a two hit shutout.

The Yanks offense did the job without superstar, Joe D., who was at the ball park in name only. The big guy was just 2-11, with three walks in the series.

No long balls were hit in the game, but Hank Bauer hit a two run triple, and Rizzuto and Brown each doubled.

Cleveland beat Chicago, 6-5, in the only other game on the slate.

The Red Sox now welcome the Senators in, for five games, including two double headers.
