RED SOX SWEEP SECOND DOUBLE HEADER IN THREE DAYS
Boston took both ends of their second twinbill with the Senators in the last three days.
They pasted the Senators, 10-2, in an opening game rout, which saw Ellis Kinder improve to (10-4). Birdie Tebbetts had a triple and a sac fly; Dom DiMaggio doubled twice, while Bobby Doerr, Bobby Goodman and Al Zarilla also stroked two baggers.
The Red Sox took advantage of nine walks, with four of those being cashed in for runs.
Game two was a pitcher’s duel, won by Jack Kramer(5-2), who logged his first shutout in a 1-0, Boston win. Kramer scattered six hits in the win, escaping a real jam in the seventh, when Washington had runners on second and third with no outs, yet failed to score.
The deciding tally of the game occurred in the last of the third. Goodman doubled to start the inning, then came in on a Matt Batts single.
Boston was actually out hit, six to five, but was able to punch across the game’s only run.
The long series with the Senators finishes up today. New York split with Philadelphia to fall 10.5 games back.
Other American League scores: New York 4, 3 Philadelphia 2, 4; Detroit 6, 4 St. Louis 2, 3; Cleveland 4, 5 Chicago 3, 0.
