STAN SPENCE’S TWO RUN HR IN BOTTOM OF EIGHTH SINKS RED SOX

St. Louis’s Stan Spence blasted a two run home run off Tex Hughson(3-3), as Boston lost a close one to the Browns.

Hughson was on in relief of Ellis Kinder, and was unable to record a single out in the eighth inning. He gave up a single to Bob Dillinger, the homer to Spence and a second single to Dick Kokos, before the Red Sox pulled the plug and went to Jack Kramer.

Al Zarilla led the Boston bats, with a home run, his (13th) and a single.

Dom DiMaggio was hit by a pitch in the top of the eighth and will probably miss the next game.

Fortunately, the Indians beat the Yankees. The Red Sox are off tommorow, then head to Comiskey Park in Chicago to face the White Sox.

Other American League scores: Detroit 8 New York 4; Washington 4 Cleveland 2; Philadelphia 9 St. Louis 5
