TIGERS TAKE RED SOX TO THE WOODSHED IN 12-4 DRUBBING

Detroit put up a dozen runs, the most any team has scored against Boston this year, while facing Joe Dobson(8-4) and three other Red Sox moundsman.

Things started out well for the crimson hose, with three runs in the top of the first, including a two run homer from Ted Williams(38). The Splendid Splinter had gone nearly two weeks without a home run.

But things quickly went sour, with Dobson giving up two runs in the second and four more in the third.

Aaron Robinson belted a pair of homers, one a grand slam off Earl Johnson, in the bottom of the sixth. His five rbi’s led the team. Vic Wertz hit two doubles and a single, scoring three times and Bob Kennedy also had a pair of two baggers and a single, driving in two runs.

Al Zarilla(15) tacked on a late home run for Boston.

The last place Cardinals helped Boston’s cause by beating New York.

Other American League scores: St. Louis 6 New York 2; Washington 1 Chicago 0; Philadelphia at Cleveland was ppd.
