TIGERS TAKE RED SOX TO THE WOODSHED IN 12-4 DRUBBING
Detroit put up a dozen runs, the most any team has scored against Boston this year, while facing Joe Dobson(8-4) and three other Red Sox moundsman.
Things started out well for the crimson hose, with three runs in the top of the first, including a two run homer from Ted Williams(38). The Splendid Splinter had gone nearly two weeks without a home run.
But things quickly went sour, with Dobson giving up two runs in the second and four more in the third.
Aaron Robinson belted a pair of homers, one a grand slam off Earl Johnson, in the bottom of the sixth. His five rbi’s led the team. Vic Wertz hit two doubles and a single, scoring three times and Bob Kennedy also had a pair of two baggers and a single, driving in two runs.
Al Zarilla(15) tacked on a late home run for Boston.
The last place Cardinals helped Boston’s cause by beating New York.
