ATHLETICS BEAT RED SOX AGAIN AS BOSTON BULLPEN STRUGGLES IN 8-6 LOSS
In the very first inning, Philadelphia’s Pete Suder greeted Joe Dobson with a three run homer, as part of a four run inning.
Boston got three of those back on Ted Williams’ (40th) home run of the year. The game was tied at one point, five runs apiece, however Earl Johnson and Tex Hughson(3-4) both allowed a steady stream of singles and walks in relief.
In addition to Johnson and Hughson, Boston also used Chuck Stobbs and Jack Kramer, burning through five pitchers in the game.
The Red Sox will try to avoid the sweep tomorrow. The Yankees tired of losing, decided to shutout Washington, and so, gained a full game in the standings.
Other American League scores: New York 6 Washington 0; St. Louis 4 Cleveland 3; Detroit 5 Chicago 3.
