BOSTON CAN ONLY MANAGE SPLIT WITH SENATORS; YANKS BEAT A’S TWICE
The Red Sox lost a bit of ground to the Yankees, as Boston could only manage a split with the Washington Senators, while, New York beat Philadelphia twice.
Boston defeated Washington, 5-3 in the first game, with Ellis Kinder(13-5) getting the win on the mound.
Washington pitchers issued ten base on balls, including two to Ted Williams. Those two free passes gave Ted a season total of 109, therefore breaking Mickey Mantle’s Stratball record for walks in a season.
The second game was a back and forth slugfest. Jack Kramer(6-3) gave up three runs in the top of the ninth, two wind up as the losing pitcher.
The Red Sox rallied in the bottom of the ninth, with Al Zarilla(16) belting a three run home run, but even with that, they fell two runs short. Al had a monster game. Along with the homer, he doubled and singled twice.
There are no game scheduled in the American League tomorrow, but beginning on September 7th, the Red Sox kick off a big series against the Yankees in New York.
