RED SOX BEAT YANKEES AGAIN; TIGERS TAKE OVER SECOND PLACE

Bobby Doerr(20) and Vern Stephens(27) both homered, as Boston defeated New York yet again, this time by a 5-3 margin.

Joe Dobson started the game and went six innings to a no decision. Tex Hughson(4-4) was terrific in relief, holding the Yankees scoreless on just one hit, over three innings.

The hard charging Detroit Tigers, who were idle, took over sole possession of second place, due to the Yankee loss.
