RED SOX PLAY TWO EXTRA INNING GAMES WITH ATHLETICS, WIN ONE, LOSE ONE
Boston split a double header with Philadelphia, losing the first game when Pete Suder hit a two run walkoff home run against Frank Quinn(11-6), in the bottom of the 13th inning, to give the Athletics a 5-3 win. Ted Williams(44) homered in defeat.
They bounced back in game two, getting an rbi sacrifice fly from Birdie Tebbetts, in the top of the tenth, enroute to a 4-3 victory.
Tebbetts, who played in both games, had missed 15 games, due to injury. His timing was off, as he was 0-10 in the two games, yet was able to connect on the sac fly which scored Billy Goodman with the eventual winning run.
Tex Hughson(5-4) picked up the win. He tossed two and a third innings of scoreless relief, setting Philadelphia down in order in the bottom of the tenth.
Detroit beat Chicago and the Yankees beat the Senators twice. There are no games in the American League tommorow, but starting Sept 13, Boston has a big series with the “hot on their heels”, Detroit Tigers.
Other A.L. scores: Detroit 1 Chicago 0; New York 20, 2 Washington 5, 1; St. Louis 5 Cleveland 4.
