Mickey McDermott(14-11) was up to the task, scattering six hits as he white washed Detroit, 2-0.
Boston themselves could only manage two runs off Art Houtteman, both of those coming in the bottom of the sixth. In that inning, Dom DiMaggio singled, then advanced on a Johnny Pesky sacrifice bunt. Bobby Doerr followed with an infield single, pushing Dom to third. Ted Williams singled, plating DiMaggio and sending Doerr to third. Vern Stephens sacrifice fly then brought in Doerr with the Red Sox second run of the inning.
