ALLIE REYNOLDS HANDS SOX FIFTH STRAIGHT DEFEAT WITH 4-0 SHUTOUT
The “Super Chief”, Allie Reynolds, has whitewashed the Boston Red Sox for the second time this season.
The Red Sox clinched the pennant on September 25th and have not won a game since, dropping their last five in a row.
Reynolds only allowed four hits, but he did issue six walks. Unbelievably, Boston could not cash in a single run, after all those free passes.
Joe Dobson(8-6) took it on the chin for the loss.
Boston will have one more chance to get to win #100, as the season ends today against the Yankees. Mel Parnell will take the mound for the Red Sox, while Vic Rashi goes for New York.
Other American League scores: Cleveland 4 Detroit 0; St. Louis 8 Chicago 6; Philadelphia 7 Washington 4.
