CLEMENTE OUT FOR 15 GAMES; REDS HAND BUCS THEIR FIRST LOSS OF YEAR

Pirate right fielder, Roberto Clemente, struck by a Joe Nuxhall pitch in the first game of a double header at Forbes Field, will be out of the lineup for a full fifteen games.

The bad news came at the end of the twinbill, which the Pirates and Reds split, each winning a game. The Latin ballplayer, with the cannon throwing arm and potent bat, will be sorely missed. Geno Cimoli will fill in at the right field spot.

Pittsburgh won the first contest, 9-0, with Harvey Haddix(1-0) collecting the team’s first shutout win. Dick Groat had three hits, including a double and a triple. Dick Stuart had three singles. Smokey Burgess(1) homered and Cimoli had a double and a sacrifice fly.

Game two saw Cincinnati hand the Pirates their first loss by a 7-2 score. Don Chaney(0-1) started and took the loss.

The National League is dark tomorrow.

Pittsburgh next hosts the Philadelphia Phillies in a three game series.

Other National League scores: Los Angeles 7 St. Louis 5; Milwaukee 8 Philadelphia 4; San Francisco 4 Chicago 3
