BUCS BULLPEN FALTERS IN 7-6 LOSS TO REDLEGS
The Pirates and Reds were tied 3-3, heading into the top of the seventh inning. Pittsburgh gave starter, Harvey Haddix a three run cushion, including a two run home run by Dick Stuart(3).
Haddix had been pinch hit for by Dick Schofield and it paid off, as Schofield singled and later scored. Joe Gibbon(0-1) took the mound for the Buccos in the last of the seventh. He gave up a lead off single to Reds starter, Cal McLish. He got Eddie Kasko to line out to first, but lost Vada Pinson to a walk. Gus Bell popped out to Bill Mazeroski at second, but Frank Robinson and Wally Post hit back to back, rbi singles.
With two on and two out, the Pirates went to Fred Green. He promptly walked Ed Bailey, to load the bases, then Roy McMillian and Elio Chacon each knocked in another run with singles, before McLish, who started the inning, struck out. All four runs were charged to Gibbon.
