GEORGE CROWE’S PINCH HIT HR MEANS FIRST LOSS FOR BOB FRIEND

The Cardinals’ George Crowe hit a seventh inning, pinch hit homerun, breaking a 2-2 tie, as St. Louis went on to a 4-2 win over Bob Friend(3-1) and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Dick Stuart(4) collected three of the Pirates five hits, with a homer and two singles. Bill Virdon had a double and Friend had the only other hit.

The Bucs have a day off after this rare, one game series, before heading to Chicago to take on the Cubs.
