1960 Pittsburgh Pirates Replay

PIRATES DECIDE WINNING IN THE 9TH IS MORE FUN THAN LOSING IN 9TH

The Pirates decided to try something novel, winning a game in the ninth inning, rather than losing one, which they have done several times this year.

They beat Milwaukee, 4-3, really, the Braves beat themselves, when Don McMahon walked pinch hitter, Dick Schofield with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth.

Bob Friend started, but left after six and two third innings, trailing, 3-2. Clem Labine(1-0) earned his first win of the year in relief. Dick Stuart(7) was the top hitter for the Bucs, with a double and a homerun.

Hank Aaron swung the big bat for the Braves, with a single and two doubles.

Other National League scores: Chicago 4 St. Louis 0; Philadelphia 5 Cincinnati 2; Los Angeles 2 San Francisco 1
