CARDINALS EDGE PIRATES, 3-2 AT FORBES FIELD
The St. Louis Cardinals nipped the Pittsburgh Pirates, 3-2, when Alex Grammas and Bill White both doubled, breaking a two all tie.
It meant the first loss of the year for Vinegar Bend Mizell(4-1). Smokey Burgess collected his second homerun. Bill Virdon was 0-4 and is mired in an 0-25 slump.
Jim Umbricht will get a spot start today, going against rookie, Ray Sadecki, who is making his major league debut.
