BUCS SHUTOUT FOR SECOND STRAIGHT DAY AS GIANTS COMPLETE SWEEP
The San Francisco Giants beat Pittsburgh’s two best pitchers in their most recent series. Yesterday, Johnny Antonelli pitched a 1-0, three hit shutout, while today; Jack Sanford duplicated the feat almost exactly, with a four hit, 1-0 whitewash of the Pirates and Bob Friend(4-2).
That means the Giants swept all three games from the slumping Buccos, who have dropped five in a row.
In fairness to Friend, he pitched well. In seven innings, he gave up a single run on five hits, while striking out nine. Once again, however, Pittsburgh’s offense was stagnant. They managed only four hits, two by catcher, Smokey Burgess.
Things won’t get any easier as the tough pitching of the L.A. Dodgers comes into Forbes Field for a three game set.
Other National League scores: Milwaukee 3 Chicago 0; Los Angeles 9 Philadelphia 6; St. Louis 5,3 Cincinnati 4, 5.
