PIRATES DROP TO .500 WITH SEVENTH STRAIGHT LOSS
Once at 18 and 11, Pittsburgh is now playing .500 ball after losing for the seventh straight time.
The Dodgers, behind Johnny Podres, scored four runs in the top of the second and never looked back, beating the Bucs, 4-1. The Pirates did hit a little better, collecting nine total hits to the Dodgers’ ten, but they left eight men on base and three L.A. double plays erased potential rallies.
Bill Virdon must have heard rumors of his potential benching. He responded with three singles in four at bats.
Harvey Haddix(2-2) was the losing pitcher.
