FRIEND, FACE COMBINE TO SHUTOUT PHILLIES, 2-0
Bob Friend(5-2) took a shutout bid into the ninth inning, but after running out of gas, Elroy Face took over and finished up, as Pittsburgh beat Philadelphia, 2-0.
Friend allowed three singles in the eighth inning(his point of weakness inning). The Bucs allowed him to come out for the ninth, but when gave up a one out single to Ken Walters, Face came in the game. He hit Ted Lepcio with a pitch, putting the tying run on base, but then got Jimmie Coker to hit into a 4-6-3 double play, ending the ballgame.
