1960 Pittsburgh Pirates Replay

June 17. Gm# 56. L.A. Coliseum. Pittsburgh 8 Los Angeles 6 11 innings

BUCS COMEBACK FROM FOUR RUNS DOWN TO WIN, 8-6 IN 11 INNINGS

In their second straight extra inning game, this time against the Dodgers; Pittsburgh pulled off an amazing comeback, scoring four times in the top of the ninth, then twice in the eleventh, to secure an 8-6 win.

The Pirates trailed 6-2, with one out in the top of the ninth inning. Reliever, Ed Rakow gave up a single to Don Hoak, then a double to Bob Skinner. Having seen enough from Rakow, the Dodgers went to another Ed, this time Palmquist. He promptly hit Dick Groat with a pitch and walked Roberto Clemente. Dick Stuart reached on a two base error, before Smokey Burgess lined to second for out #2. Bill Mazeroski singled in the fourth run of the inning, tying the game, before Geno Cimoli flew out to centerfield.

Maz did it again in the top of the eleventh, stroking a bases clearing triple with two on, to put Pittsburgh ahead to stay.

Like Elroy Face yesterday; Tom Cheney(1-4) earned his first win. The Pirates got homeruns from Hoak(8) and Burgess(3).

Several bench players will be in the lineup today, as some exhausted regulars get a rest.

Other National League scores: Cincinnati 7 Chicago 1; Milwaukee 5 St. Louis 0; San Francisco 7 Philadelphia 4.
