SANDY KOUFAX STRIKES OUT 12 IN JUST SIX INNINGS. L.A. WINS, 7-2
Dodger flame thrower, Sandy Koufax struck out an incredible 12 Pittsburgh Pirates, in just six innings, leading Los Angeles to a 7-2 victory in their final game of the series over the Pirates.
Koufax fanned Roberto Clemente, Don Hoak, Dick Groat, Dick Stuart twice, while striking out Bob Skinnner, Smokey Burgess, Dick Schofield and Jim Umbricht, once each.
With one out in the sixth, Koufax finally stumbled, surrendering a solo homerun to Dick Stuart(10). Right after that, Bob Skinner drew a walk and Clemente doubled. Feeling Koufax had reached a point of no return, the Dodgers went to Ed Roebuck.
Clemente eventually scored Pittsburgh’s second run, but Roebuck was able to shut the door the rest of the way.
Wally Moon and Frank Howard led the Dodger offense, with three hits each.
Their long road trip over, Pittsburgh returns home to face the St. Louis Cardinals.
