LARRY JACKSON BEATS BOB FRIEND AS CARDINALS WIN AGAIN

St. Louis’ Larry Jackson went the distance, to beat Bob Friend(7-3) in a 5-2 decision. It was the Pirates second straight loss to the Cardinals and their third overall. The Cards move ahead of Pittsburgh in the standings by a half game as a result.

Roberto Clemente knocked a run in and Bill Mazeroski had a sacrifice fly, to account for Pittsburgh’s only runs. Hal Smith had a nice day filling in for Burgess, going 3-4 with a double.

The final game of the set takes place today, with Mizell against Kline.
