STAN WILLIAMS TURNS TABLES ON BUCS WITH TWO HIT SHUTOUT
L.A.’s Stan Williams first saw Bob Friend’s fine pitching performance yesterday, then raised him one, by tossing a 3-0, two hit shutout against Pittsburgh.
Roberto Clemente was the only Pirate to get hits off Williams, which he did twice. Williams did issue four walks and Bill Virdon reached on a Maury Wills error, but he also mixed in six strikeouts.
Vinegar Bend Mizell(8-4) was the losing pitcher. The rubber game of the series is today, with Harvey Haddix facing Don Drysdale.
