Vinegar Bend Mizell(9-4) pitched a complete game, 2-1 win, in the opener, limiting the Reds to just two hits, though he did walk six batters. Roberto Clemente led the offense, going three for four, with two runs scored.

In the second game, Cincinnati game back from a 2-1 deficit, scoring four times in the top of the sixth, aided by a rare, Bill Mazeroski error. Eddie Kasko homered off spot starter, Tom Cheney(2-5), who was tagged with the loss.
