GIANTS SEND MIZELL TO EARLY SHOWER IN 11-4 ROUT AT CANDLESTICK
Vinegar Bend Mizell(9-5) lasted just an inning and two thirds in an 11-4 rout by the San Francisco Giants. Willie Mays’ three run clout was the death knell in Mizell’s fateful frame. In all, the Giants banged out sixteen hits in the onslaught. Mike McCormick pitched seven innings for the win.
Smokey Burgess and Don Hoak were the only bright spots for Pittsburgh. Burgess had three hits and scored two of the teams four runs. Hoak took over the team home run lead by belting his (13th) in the top of the seventh.
