HAPLESS CUBS FALL TO PIRATES AGAIN
The free falling Chicago Cubs, who have dropped 10 straight games, lost again to the Pittsburgh Pirates, this time by a 5-1 score.
Chicago scored first, when George Altman homered off Vern Law(10-4) in the bottom of the fourth. That was short lived, however, as Bob Skinner(7) belted a three run clout in the top of the sixth.
Pittsburgh tacked on two more in the top of the ninth, sparked by a Roberto Clemente triple, to win going away.
Law’s win makes him the third Pirate pitcher with at least 10 wins this year, joining Bob Friend and Vinegar Mizell.
The series and the Bucs long road trip concludes today, with Friend going up against Don Cardwell.
Other National League scores: Milwaukee 9 Los Angeles 7; San Francisco 2 Cincinnati 1; St. Louis 6 Philadelphia 3.
