1960 Pittsburgh Pirates Replay

SUNDAY, AUGUST 7TH, 1960. GM’S 103-104. FORBES FIELD. S.F. 7, 6 PITTSBURGH 4. 0

Willie Mays feasted on Pirate pitching all day, as he led the Giants to a double header sweep of Pittsburgh, 7-4 and 6-0. San Francisco’s all star centerfielder had a homerun, four triples, a double and two singles, in three games. The Bucs dropped the opener, 7-6 behind Harvey Haddix(6-6). Bob Skinner did hit his (8th) homerun. The night cap saw Billy O’Dell whitewash the Pirates, 6-0, allowing just four hits, though he did walk five. Tom Cheney falls to (2-8) in the spot start. A tip of the cap to Bennie Daniels, who tossed five innings of relief, in which he gave up two runs on four hits, but fanned seven batters in that span.
