1960 Pittsburgh Pirates Replay

WED, AUG 7TH THROUGH SUN, AUG 11TH. GM’S 135-137. FORBES FIELD, PITTSBURGH

The Pirates scheduled Sunday doubleheader with the Chicago Cubs has been rained out. Before that, Pittsburgh beat St. Louis 7-2 in a single game on Wednesday. Vinegar Bend Mizell(13-8) earned a complete game win. Smokey Burgess hit his (9th) homer of the year.

Pittsburgh was idle on Thursday, then defeated the Cubs, 4-2 behind Tom Cheney(5-8). The Bucs got all four of their runs in the bottom of the seventh. Don Hoak(19) went deep for the Pirates.

On Saturday, Bob Friend(18-6) collected his eighth straight win and his seventh complete game by beating Chicago, 6-1. Friend gave up an early homer to Ernie Banks, but Pittsburgh exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third.

The Buccos next take on the San Francisco Giants for two games.
