1960 Pittsburgh Pirates Replay

WED, SEPT 14 TO THURS, SEPT 15. GM’S 140-141. FORBES FIELD, PITTSBURGH

Milwaukee won twice and Pittsburgh could only manage a split with Los Angeles, so the Pirates lead drops to four games.

The Bucs won a 3-1 decision on Wednesday, behind Harvey Haddix(13-6). The Pirates certainly made the most of their three hits in a real, hard luck loss by Stan Williams. Bill Virdon’s(11) homer in the first and a pivotal error by Jim Gilliam in the fifth, spelled doom for the Dodgers.

The next day, L.A. got revenge, with a 4-3 victory. This time it was a Dick Groat bobble which led to the go ahead run in the top of the eighth inning. Roy Face(5-5) was tagged with the loss in relief.

Overall, the Pirates had a good home stand, going 8-4, but now they head to Cincinnati to begin another road trip. And the Braves keep winning.
