My Next Stratball Project

THE 1972 CHICAGO WHITE SOX

For my next project, I will be replaying the season of the 1972 Chicago White Sox in the American League West division.

This was an exciting team, who, although they fell short of the powerful Oakland A’s for the division title, were perhaps, instrumental in persuading team owners to keep the club in Chicago. Attendance had lagged for several years and there was talk of moving the team to another city.

The prodigiously talented, Dick Allen was named MVP of the league and was the unquestioned superstar. But he had talented teammates as well. Pat Kelly, Walt Williams, Ed Herrmann, Ed Spiezio and others. The pitching staff was led by 24 game winner and knuckleballer, Wilbur Wood. Stan Bahnsen, recently acquired from the Yankees won 20 and Tom Bradley was solid. The bullpen had two fine pitchers, Terry Forster and a rookie named Goose Gossage, who would go on to a hall of fame career.

Follow along and see how the Sox do this year. For this project, I will only be showing standings from the West division. I will roll all the White Sox games, then plug in the actual scores from the other teams who are playing on a particular day.

Some rules: Injury rolls will be for the remainder of that game only. Pitching rotation for the White Sox will be four man. Others will do double headers and spot starts.

A recap after each series will be posted, along with the standings. The season, shortened by a strike, begins April 15th in Kansas City, with Chicago taking on the Royals.
