SERIES #5. THREE GAMES. SWEPT SERIES. CHICAGO AT DETROIT
The White Sox have a nice little five game win streak going. They just completed their most successful series thus far, taking all three games from the Detroit Tigers.
Chicago put up two routs, 14-0 and 7-0, then fought for a comeback, 7-4 victory after trailing, 4-0, early in the game.
The White Sox scored fourteen runs in the opener, the most they have scored this season. Pat Kelly had two triples and scored four times. Jorge Orta(1) hit his first homeruns, while Bill Melton(2) got his second. Tom Bradley(1-1) started and earned the win. The team really poured it on late, scoring nine runs over the last two innings.
Dick Allen(8) set a new Stratball record in game two, with seven runs batted in. He also joined the 3 homeruns in one game club, belting a pair of three run clouts off Mickey Lolich, then in the top of the ninth, he touched up Lerrin LeGrew for a solo shot. Eddie Fisher(1-1) earned the win in this game.
In game three, Chicago fell behind, 4-0, as Stan Bahnsen didn’t have anything. A three run, sixth inning was highlighted by two homeruns. First, a two run shot by Carlos May(2), then two batters later, a solo homer by Ed Herrmann(4). The long ball barrage would continue in both the eighth and ninth. Jay Johnstone(1) went deep in the eighth and Melton(3) clubbed a two run homerun in the ninth. Cy Acosta(3-0) stayed perfect, winning in relief.
