1972 Chicago White Sox Replay

SERIES # 7. THREE GAMES. SWEPT SERIES. CHICAGO AT CLEVELAND

The White Sox put their loss to Baltimore in the rear view mirror, with a three game, series sweep of the Cleveland Indians, at Municipal Stadium.

Game one recap: Chicago jumped out to a 6-3 lead, then held off the Indians to win by an score of 8-4. Tom Bradley(2-1) started and won. Pat Kelly was 4-4 with a walk, scored four times and stole two bases. Dick Allen(9) homered.

Game two recap: In a wild, 11 inning affair, the White Sox led 4-0 early, but then allowed five runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth, to trail, 7-4. They kept plugging away and tied the game in the top of the ninth, aided greatly by Del Unser’s two base error. Allen doubled in the top of the eleventh and scored on a Carlos May single, as Chicago won, 9-8, in a thriller. Allen finished 4-6, with a triple and two doubles. Steve Kealey(1-2) won in relief.

Game three recap: Once again, Chicago scored twice in the top of the ninth. This time, Ed Herrmann(5) hit a two run blast, which proved to be the game winner in a 6-4 decision. Jorge Orta(1) and Dick Allen(10) hit back to back homers in the top of the third inning. Stan Bahnsen(2-0) earned the win on the mound.

Next series- Two games vs Detroit at home.
