1972 Chicago White Sox Replay

SERIES # 13. THREE GAMES, SWEPT SERIES. CHICAGO AT OAKLAND

The red hot Chicago White Sox swept another series, taking 3 in a row from a powerful Oakland A’s team. The pale hose have won five straight. All the games were close, with the Sox winning by scores of 4-2; 6-5 and 5-4.

Dick Allen clubbed his (16th) homer in game one, with Eddie Fisher(4-1) earning the win. In game two, Chicago jumped out to a 4-0 lead, then held off a hard charging A’s squad, eventually pulling out a 6-5 win. Terry Forster(1-2) collected his first win of the season. Vincente Romo got a save. Pat Kelly had four hits, including a double and a triple. Ed Herrmann(7) homered.

The finale saw Wilbur Wood improve to (3-1). Carlos May(5) had two hits, including a homerun. Ed Spezio gave Bill Melton a break at the hot corner and chipped in with two hits, including a two run double in the second inning.

Chicago now heads to Anaheim to play the California Angels in a four game set. They have a double header, then two single games.
