1972 Chicago White Sox Replay

SERIES#15. FOUR GAMES, LOST ALL 4 GAMES. NEW YORK VS CHICAGO

For the first time this season, the Chicago White Sox were swept in a series, losing four straight games to the New York Yankees. They lost the June 2sd game, 6-2, the June 3rd game, 13-5, then dropped both ends of a doubleheader, both by scores of 3-1.

Tom Bradley(6-2) lost the first game, leaving after six innings, trailing 3-1. The bullpen did him no favors, allowing three more runs over the last two innings. Walt Williams went 3-5 in the loss.

Eddie Fisher was hit hard right out of the gate in game two, surrendering five runs in two innings, though two of those were unearned. Mike Andrews took the goat horns in the game, committing two errors in one inning. The errors were bad, but New York pounded the ball so much that they really didn’t effect the score that much. In the 13-5 shellacking, Horace Clarke was 3-5, with three runs scored, Bernie Allen homered, and also scored three times. Thurman Munson added a double and a single. The White Sox scored enough runs late in the game to take Fisher off the hook, therefore, Vincente Romo(2-1) took the loss.

After these two defeats, Chicago dropped both games of the twinbill. Steve Kealy(2-3) was the losing pitcher in the opener. Horace Clarke’s two run homer in the eighth was the difference in the 3-1 loss. In the second game, the White Sox lost again by a 3-1 score. Dave Lemonds(3-2) made his second start of the year, this one not going as well as the first. He left after four and a third, trailing, 2-1. Walt Williams(2) homered in defeat. Chicago’s pitching staff issued 10 walks in this game, however only one scored.
