SERIES #17. FOUR GAMES, WON 3 0F 4. MILWAUKEE AT CHICAGO
The White Sox had another fine series, taking three out of four from the Milwaukee Brewers at home.
Chicago won the first two games by scores of 6-1 and 4-0, then split a double header, winning the opener, 4-2, but dropping the nightcap, 8-2. The series began with Eddie Fisher(5-1) getting a somewhat lucky win. He trailed 1-0, leaving the game after five innings pitched, but Chicago scored five runs in the home half of the fifth, thereby making him the pitcher of record. Jorge Orta(4)’s three run homer, was the big blow of the game.
Stan Bahnsen(4-2) earned his first shutout, beating the Brewers, 4-0, on just four hits. Rich Morales had a triple and a single, pacing the Sox offense.
Like Fisher in game two, Wilbur Wood(5-2) had the offense bail him out. He left after seven innings, trailing 2-1, but Chicago scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to give Wood the win. Mike Andrews(2) and Bill Melton(8) both homered in that inning, as Chicago went on to win, 4-2.
The final game was the Brewers all the way. Starter, Dave Lemonds(2-3) was shelled, lasting just 1.2 innings. He surrendered 6 runs on four hits, but two of those were homeruns. He also walked three batters in that short span. Billy Conigliaro homered twice, while George Scott went deep once, in the rout.
The team now heads out on the road, starting with three games against New York at Yankee Stadium.
