SERIES #21. THREE GAMES, WON TWO OF THREE. CHICAGO AT TEXAS
The Chicago White Sox took two out of three against the Texas Rangers at Arlington Stadium.
They won the first game, 4-0, when three White Sox pitchers, starter, Eddie Fisher(6-2), Steve Kealy and Goose Gossage; combined for a four hit whitewash. Dick Allen(21,22) had his third multi homer game of the year, smashing a pair of solo shots.
The next contest saw Chicago strike first, as Allen doubled in Pat Kelly in the top of the first. That would be short lived however, as Dick Billings clubbed a three run clout off Stan Bahnsen(6-3) in the home first. The White Sox got back to back homers from two unlikely sources in the second inning, as Kelly(2) went deep, immediately followed by Mike Andrews(3). The White Sox held off the Rangers to win, 5-4.
Texas pulled out the last game of the series, 5-4, beating Wilbur Wood(6-3). Chicago plated three runs in the top of the second, but a three run smash by Ted Ford knotted the game after three full innings. Ranger catcher, Hal King made up for an earlier error by smacking a two run single in the seventh. The red hot Allen knocked in another ribbie with a single in the top of the ninth, but that was as close as the White Sox would get.
The team will wrap up the road trip with two games against the Royals at Municipal Stadium in Kansas City.
The Oakland A’s meanwhile, played four against California, dropping the first two games before sweeping a doubleheader.
