1972 Chicago White Sox Replay

SERIES #36. TWO GAMES, WON BOTH. MILWAUKEE VS CHICAGO

Chicago remains in a virtual tie for first place with Oakland in the American League West Division, after winning a two game set with the Milwaukee Brewers, 7-1 and 5-2. Oakland beat Baltimore on August 14th. They did not play on the 15th and won again on the 16th.

Game one: Homeruns were flying out of Comiskey Park all series. Carlos May(8,9) stroked a pair of two run shots in this game. May also had a sacrifice fly, for five rbi’s in total. Wilbur Wood improves to (10-7) with the 7-1 pasting of the Brewers.

Game two: The long ball continued for the White Sox, with Dick Allen(31,32) doing the double dip, deep ball honors in the second contest. Chicago was actually trailing, 2-1, heading into the last of the ninth, when Allen clubbed his second homer of the game off reliever, Skip Lockwood, tying the game. After Lockwood fanned Rick Reichardt, he walked Dave May and Ed Spiezio, back to back, then Ed Herrmann(12) ended the ball game with Chicago’s fifth homerun of the series.

The White Sox now head to Baltimore to play the Orioles, one game at Memorial Stadium, then return home to face the Boston Red Sox in a four game series.
