1972 Chicago White Sox Replay

SERIES #39. TWO GAMES, SWEPT SERIES. NEW YORK VS CHICAGO

As a result of sweeping a two game series against the New York Yankees, the White Sox have moved into sole possession of first place in the A.L. West by a half game over Oakland.

Eddie Fisher improves to(11-7) with a 5-1 win in the first game. Fisher had a somewhat odd pitching line, in that he allowed nine hits, but did not strike out or walk a single batter. Vincente Romo was perfect in two and two thirds innings of relief. Dick Allen(34) led the offense with a homerun and a pair of singles.

Rich Morales(3) had a huge day at the plate, with a two run homer and an rbi single. He also had a second single late in the game. Ed Spiezio singled twice and scored two runs. Stan Bahnsen(13-5) worked six innings to claim the win.

Chicago doesn’t play again until August 26th, when they head to Milwaukee to battle the Brewers.
