1972 Chicago White Sox Replay

SERIES #48. TWO GAMES, LOST BOTH. CHICAGO AT OAKLAND

Well, it’s going to take a miracle. If a miracle is too dramatic, how about a long win streak and the Oakland A’s moving to another division? Because that’s what it’s going to take for the Chicago White Sox to have any chance of winning the West Division flag.

After the White Sox lost both games in their series with the Division leaders, Oakland’s magic number to clinch the division is down to 6. Here’s how the games shook out.

Game one: Oakland 4 Chicago 3. Blue Moon Odom got the best of Tom Bradley, but it was Dave Lemonds(4-7) who was tagged with the loss, in relief. Bradley allowed three runs, including a two run bomb by Reggie Jackson, but Chicago’s Pat Kelly singled and later scored in the top of the ninth, to get Bradley off the hook.

Game two: Oakland 7 Chicago 4. Dick Allen continues to pad his stats on his fine season, but no one else contributed much. The Chicago first sacker hit his (41’st) homerun of the year, in addition to a single and a triple, but Eddie Fisher(11-11) had another subpar outing in a 7-4 loss. Fisher has lost four in a row and has allowed twenty runs in 9 and two thirds innings of work over a four game span.

Chicago will fly home tomorrow, then battle the Texas Rangers on Sept 22, 23, 24. The A’s take on the Kansas City Royals.
