Peaches 4 Hammers 2. Homeruns by Honus Wagner and Sherry Magee, plus a costly two base error by Luis Aparicio, allowed the Peaches to win their first game of the year against the Hammers. Willie Mays belted his third homer of the season. Christy Mathewson got the complete game win. WP-Mathewson(1-0) LP-Koufax(0-1) HR-Mays(3), Wagner(1), Magee(1).

Mad Dogs 6 Sultans 5 (12 inn). The Mad Dogs won the first extra inning game of the year, when Ken Griffey Jr. singled in Barry Bonds, who had tripled, in the bottom of the 12th inning. It was a tough loss for Stan Coveleski, who was forced into four innings of relief. WP-Pedro Martinez(1-0) LP-Coveleski(0-1) HR-McGwire(1)

Terrifics 4 Naturals 1. Steve Carlton tossed a complete game, three hitter and Johnny Bench homered as the Terrifics beat the Naturals, 4-1. WP-Carlton(1-0) LP-Lester(0-1).
