TWINBILL TALES

As each team in the league plays a double header on May 2sd, I decided I would give the game recaps after each two game set, rather than waiting until all games have been rolled.

May 2. Hammers 7, Terrifics 2; Hammers 6 Terrifics 5 (12 inn)

The last place Hammers were the talk of the league, as they swept both games of their doubleheader with the first place Terrifics.

Willie McCovey’s fifth inning, grand slam off of Tom Seaver, was the big blow in game one. Bill Mazeroski also went deep for the Hammers. Juan Marichal had a shutout going until the eighth inning. He got the first two outs, but then Rod Carew doubled and George Foster hit his sixth homerun, spoiling the shutout bid. Seaver has now allowed 11 homeruns in four starts. In game two, Roberto Clemente tripled in the top of the twelfth inning, then was singled in by Del Crandall, with what would prove to be the winning run, in a 6-5, extra winning win for the Hammers. Jim Maloney tossed five innings of no hit ball, from the eighth though the twelfth, to earn the win. Though the game featured both teams “B” squads, George Foster played and homered again, for the second straight game. WP-Jim Maloney(2-0) LP-Ferguson Jenkins(1-1). HR-George Foster(6).
