TWINBILL TALES
MAY 2. Sultans 13, Peaches 3; Sultans 1, Peaches 0. (10 inn_
The Sultans took two games from the Peaches and they couldn’t have been more different. The opener was a straight up blowout, with the Sultans winning by ten runs, 13-3. Rogers Hornsby, who had three hits and a homerun, along with six runs batted in. Joe Jackson was 4-6, with a homer and four rbi. Herb Pennock worked eight innings to get the win. WP-Herb Pennock(2-2) LP-Ed Walsh(1-1). HR-Jackson(3), Hornsby(3).
Game two featured one of the best pitching duels thus far. Vean Gregg of the Peaches hooked up against Stan Coveleski, with each starter throwing a full nine innings of scoreless ball. Coveleski, in fact, pitched ten innings, getting the win, when George Kelly doubled in Frankie Frisch, against Walter Johnson, in the last of the tenth inning. One injury note, Nap Lajoie was injured in his last at bat and will be out of action for 17 days. That means Eddie Collins will be the main man at the keystone sack for the foreseeable future. WP-Coveleski(1-1). LP-Walter Johnson(2-3).
