MAY 3 Mad Dogs 2, Clippers 0; Naturals 5 Comets 3

These were the only two games on today’s slate. Tom Glavine earned his first shutout, beating the Clippers, 2-0, allowing just four hits. Mark McGwire ended an 0-16 slump by belting his sixth homerun in the first inning. Pudge Rodriguez added the Mad Dogs’ second tally in the bottom of the eighth, when he singled in Chipper Jones. Stan Musial of the Clippers was given the day off, Mel Ott took his place in right field. Likewise, Juan Rodriguez stepped in for Sammy Sosa in right, for the Mad Dogs. The Mad Dogs have won three in a row, while the Clippers have dropped three straight games. WP-Tom Glavine(2-1) LP-Dizzy Dean(2-2). HR-Mark McGwire(6).

The Naturals got to Warren Spahn early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second, enroute to a 5-3 victory. Jon Lester picked up the win, despite giving up ten hits in just five innings. He was bailed out by three double plays. Norm Siebern homered for the Comets; Joey Votto for the Naturals. Elvis Andrus, in his Legends League debut, singled and hit a sacrifice fly, while spelling, Troy Tulowitski at shortstop. Andrew McCutchen gave Mike Trout the day off in center, Cutch was 1-4, with a double and a run scored. WP-Jon Lester(1-2) LP-Warren Spahn(2-3). HR-Norm Siebern(5); Joey Votto(3).
